WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS
CALL TO WORSHIP
Welcome to this place, as we gather with all of God's children:
where we find God's love,
where we hear the tender voice of Jesus,
where the Spirit teaches us new songs.
Welcome to this place, where all is made ready by our God:
where we bring our hunger, and find nourishment;
where we bring our brokenness, and find healing;
where we bring our very selves, and find acceptance.
*OPENING HYMN #401 (Red) ‘Here in This Place’
1. Here in this place the new light is streaming; now is the darkness vanished away;
See in this space our fears and our dreamings brought here to you in the light of this day.
Gather us in, the lost and forsaken; gather us in, the blind and the lame;
Call to us now, and we shall awaken; we shall arise at the sound of our name.
2. We are the young, our lives are a mystery. We are the old who yearn for your face.
We have been sung throughout all of history, Called to be light to the whole human race.
Gather us in, the rich and the haughty; Gather us in, the proud and the strong;
Give us a hearts, so meek and so lowly; Give us the courage to enter the song.
3. Here we will take the wine and the water; Here we will take the bread of new birth.
Here you shall call your sons and your daughters, Call us anew to be salt for the earth.
Give us to drink the wine of compassion; Give us to eat the bread that is you;
Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.
4. Not in the dark of buildings confining, Not to some heaven, light years away:
Here in this place the new light is shining; Now is the kingdom, and now is the day.
Gather us in and hold us forever, Gather us in and make us your own;
Gather us in, all peoples together, Fire of love in our flesh and our bone.
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, we confess that we are quick to look through the window and slow to look in the mirror. We confess that we can see how others stumble, but we do not see how we contributed to their stumble. Help us to own our faults, to look in the mirror, and also to see the love you still have for us. We ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON

SCRIPTURE READING
Psalm 19: 1-4 (Read responsively, on screen)
1 The heavens are telling the glory of God,
and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
2 Day to day pours forth speech,
and night to night declares knowledge.
3 There is no speech, nor are there words;
their voice is not heard;
4 yet their voice goes out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
Mark 9:38-42
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a deed of power in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 Whoever is not against us is for us. 41 For truly I tell you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ will by no means lose the reward.
42 “If any of you cause one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea.
SERMON Whose Side are You On?
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH - Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
