CALL TO WORSHIP
We gather in the presence of the holy God, whose voice has spoken through cloud and fire.
We come as people who have been claimed by grace and invited into God’s presence.
God’s voice still speaks—calling, guiding, and directing our lives.
So we come to listen, to worship, and to follow where Christ leads.
*OPENING HYMN #138 (blue) “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim, falling down before Thee,
Who wert and art, and evermore shall be.
Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinfulness Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name, in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
*CALL TO CONFESSION and *PRAYER OF CONFESSION Holy God, you have claimed us as your own, yet we do not always listen. You invite us to follow and trust your Word, yet we hesitate, we doubt, we fear. You send us into the world with purpose and love, yet we cling to comfort and our own ways. Forgive us, direct us, and help us listen to Christ. Open our hearts, that we may walk faithfully in your ways, following where your voice leads, trusting your direction, and walking in your light. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
And to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now,
And ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.
CHILDREN’S TIME
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION and SCRIPTURE READING
Old Testament Reading: Exodus 24:12, 15-16
12The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.”
15Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days; on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the cloud.
Epistle Reading: 2 Peter 1:17-21
17For he (Jesus) received honor and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.”
18We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain.
19So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
20First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
Matthew 17:1-9
1Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain, by themselves. 2And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. 3Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4Then Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three dwellings here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud a voice said, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” 6When the disciples heard this, they fell to the ground and were overcome by fear. 7But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Get up and do not be afraid.” 8And when they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus himself alone.
9As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Tell no one about the vision until after the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
SERMON The Voice of God Directs Us
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the Brief Statement of Faith
With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
*HYMN OF RESPONSE #324 (blue) “Open My Eyes That I May See”
Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
and while the wave notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my mouth, and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart, and let me prepare love with Thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!

*CLOSING HYMN #447 (blue) “Lead On, O King Eternal”
Lead on, O King eternal, the day of march has come;
henceforth in fields of conquest Thy tents shall be our home:
Through days of preparation Thy grace has made us strong,
and now, O King eternal, we lift our battle song.
Lead on, O King eternal, till sin's fierce war shall cease,
and holiness shall whisper the sweet amen of peace;
For not with swords' loud clashing or roll of stirring drums;
with deeds of love and mercy the heavenly kingdom comes.
Lead on, O King eternal: we follow, not with fears;
for gladness breaks like morning where'er Thy face appears;
Thy cross is lifted o'er us, we journey in its light:
the crown awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might.
