CALL TO WORSHIP
God has gathered us to this place,
To worship and to experience the glory of God.
God summons us to this place,
To learn how to serve God without reservation or hesitation.
Open your hearts and spirits to hear God’s word.
That your lives may reflect God’s glory.
*OPENING HYMN #485 (Blue) To God be the Glory
To God be the glory, great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that He gave us his Son,
Who yielded his life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory: great things He hath done!
Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see. [Refrain]
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Compassionate and glorious God, we come before you because of Your promises and truth. You tell us that if we confess our sins, then You will purify us. But even with such straightforward mercy, we lose focus on You and get caught up in everyday life. We haven’t lived our lives to their full purpose, and we haven’t recognized and responded to Your glory. Forgive us so that we can celebrate your eternal glory and lead us to spread the good news in our every day lives, so that Your goodness may shine through us. In Jesus name, Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*GLORIA PATRI (on screen)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
And to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SCRIPTURE READING
John 17: 1-26
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
6 “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.
12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.
May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
24 “Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
SERMON Jesus Prays for His Beloved Disciples
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (from the Scots Confession of 1560)
We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to whom alone we must cleave, whom alone we must serve, whom only we must worship, and in whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
SERVICE OF HOLY COMMUNION
INVITATION TO THE TABLE
*COMMUNION HYMN #510 (Blue) Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts
Jesus, Thou joy of loving hearts,
Thou fount of life, Thou light of all,
From the best bliss that earth imparts,
We turn, unfilled, to heed Thy call.
Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood;
Thou savest those that on Thee call;
To them that seek Thee, Thou art good,
To them that find Thee, all in all.
We taste Thee, O Thou living bread,
And long to feast upon Thee still;
We drink of Thee, the fountain-head,
And thirst our souls from Thee to fill.
Our restless spirits yearn for Thee,
Where'er our changeful lot is cast;
Glad when Thy gracious smile we see,
Blest when our faith can hold Thee fast.
O Jesus, ever with us stay,
Make all our moments calm and bright;
O chase the night of sin away;
Shed o'er the world Thy holy light.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
The Lord be with you
And also with you
Lift up your hearts
We lift them to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
…When we failed you, you did not fail us and sent prophets to call us back to your ways.
We praise you that in the fullness of time, you revealed your love by sending your Son Jesus to be the Light of the world.
… Because of his great love, he gave his life for others.
In his death on the cross, he overcame death. Rising from the tomb, he raised us to eternal life, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.
…that we may be one with all who share this feast, united in ministry in every place.
As this bread is Christ’s body for us, send us out to be the body of Christ in the world.
…to reconcile our enemies, and to love our neighbors.
Keep us faithful in your service until Christ comes in final victory
and we shall feast with all your saints in the joy of your eternal realm.
…Through Christ, with Christ, in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor are yours, almighty God, now and forever, as we pray:
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever, Amen.

*CLOSING HYMN #420 (Blue) God of Grace and God of Glory
God of grace and God of glory, on Thy people pour Thy power;
Crown Thy ancient Church’s story; bring its bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the facing of this hour,

From the fears that long have bound us free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage for the living of these days,
For the living of these days.
Cure Thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to Thy control;
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.

Serving Thee whom we adore.
