CALL TO WORSHIP
Come and worship, all you who love and serve our God
Who surrounds us with unfailing love, and answers us when we call;
who cares for the humble and lowly,
and never abandons those in need.
This is our God, worthy of our worship and praise!
We join to worship and praise our God!
*OPENING HYMN #324 (BLUE) "OPEN MY EYES THAT I MAY SEE"
Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me;
place in my hands the wonderful key, that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth Thou sendest clear;
and while the wave-notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my mouth, and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart, and let me prepare love with Thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
open my heart, illumine me, Spirit divine!
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Heavenly Father, we come today knowing that nothing we have done or could do makes us worthy of approaching you. Yet we know that through Christ, YOU have made us worthy. God, we have left undone many things You would have us do. We ask you to guide our feet and our hands to make a change. God we have done and thought things we should not have. We ask you to guide our feet and our hearts to make a change. Help us to love you with all our heart, soul, body, and mind and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We ask all this in the name of Christ our Savior, Amen.
*ASSURANCE OF PARDON
*GLORIA PATRI (on screen)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
And to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now,
And ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING
Psalm 52 1-5, 8-9
1 Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly?
All day long 2 you are plotting destruction.
Your tongue is like a sharp razor, you worker of treachery.
3 You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking the truth.
4 You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.
5 But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from the land of the living.
8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.
9 I will thank you forever, because of what you have done.
In the presence of the faithful I will proclaim your name, for it is good.
Old Testament Reading: Amos 8:1-6, 9, 11-12
1 This is what the Lord GOD showed me-a basket of summer fruit. 2 He said, "Amos, what do you see?" And I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then the LORD said to me, The end has come upon my people Israel; I will never again pass them by. 3 The songs of the temple shall become wailings in that day," says the Lord GOD; "the dead bodies shall be many, cast out in every place. Be silent!" 4 Hear this, you that trample on the needy, and bring to ruin the poor of the land, 5 saying, "When will the new moon be over so that we may sell grain; and the sabbath, so that we may offer wheat for sale? We will make the ephah small and the shekel great, and practice deceit with false balances, 6buying the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, and selling the sweepings of the wheat."
9 On that day, says the Lord GOD, I will make the sun go down at noon, and darken the earth in broad daylight.
11 The time is surely coming, says the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land; not a famine of bread, or a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD. 12 They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the LORD, but they shall not find it.
Our Epistle Reading: Colossians 1:17-23
17He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18He is the head of the body, the church;
he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he might come to have first place in everything.
19For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross. 21And you who were once estranged and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22he has now reconciled in his fleshly body through death, so as to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable before him-23provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith, without shifting from the hope promised by the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven.
I, Paul, became a servant of this gospel.
This is the Word of God for the people of God
Thanks be to God
SERMON From Judgement to Hope
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
*HYMN OF RESPONSE #331 (BLUE) “THANKS TO GOD WHOSE WORD WAS WRITTEN"
Thanks to God whose word was written in the Bible’s sacred page,
Record of the revelation showing God to every age.
God has spoken: praise God for the living Word.
Thanks to God whose word was published In the tongues of every race.
See its glory undiminished by the change of time or place.
God has spoken: praise God for the living Word.
Thanks to God whose Word Incarnate heights and depths of life did share.
Deeds and words and death and rising, grace in human form declare.
God has spoken: praise God for the living Word.
Thanks to God whose Word is answered by the Spirit's voice within.
Here we drink of joy unmeasured, life redeemed from death and sin.
God is speaking: Praise God for the living Word.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
* CLOSING HYMN #332 (BLUE) "LIVE INTO HOPE"
Live into hope of captives freed,
Of sight regained, the end of greed.
The oppressed shall be the first to see
The year of God’s own jubilee!
Live into hope the blind shall see
With insight and with clarity,
Removing shades of pride and fear--
A vision of our God brought near.
Live into hope of liberty,
The right to speak, the right to be,
The right to have one’s daily bread,
To hear God’s word and thus be fed.
Live into hope of captives freed
From chains of fear or want or greed.
God now proclaims our full release
To faith and hope and joy and peace.
