CALL TO WORSHIP
We gather today to worship the God who created us,
The God who calls us,
The God who equips us,
The God who loves us without end.
With joyful hearts, let us worship God together.
*OPENING HYMN #344 (Blue) Christ of the Upward Way
Christ of the upward way, my guide divine,
Where You have set Your feet, may I place mine;
And move and march wherever You have trod,
Keeping face forward up the hill of God.
Give me the heart to hear Your voice and will,
That without fault or fear I may fulfill
Your purpose with a glad and holy zest,
Like one who would not bring less than the best.
Christ of the upward way, my guide divine,
Where You have set Your feet, may I place mine;
And when Your last call comes serene and clear,
Calm may my answer be, “Lord, I am here.”
*CALL TO CONFESSION and *PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God, you call us to be the living church, but sometimes it is challenging to know how to do that. For those times when we want to leave you here in the sanctuary, and then go and live the rest of our life for ourselves, we ask for your forgiveness. For all those things we have left undone, for those people we have left uncared for, for those words of faith and encouragement we left unsaid, for all this, we ask your forgiveness. Guide us and reshape us as your people, and restore us to faithful living, as we seek to follow you, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
2 Samuel 6:2-5, 15, 17
2David and all the people with him set out and went from Baale-judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the LORD of hosts who is enthroned on the cherubim.
3They carried the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart 4with the ark of God; and Ahio went in front of the ark.
5David and all the house of Israel were dancing before the LORD with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals.
15So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
17They brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and offerings of well-being before the LORD.
Ephesians 2:12-13, 17-22
12Remember that you were at that time without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
17So he came and proclaimed peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; 18for through him both of us have access in one Spirit to the Father.
19So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God, 20built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.
21In him the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; 22in whom you also are built together spiritually into a dwelling-place for God.
Gospel Mark 6:30-34, 56
30The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught.
31He said to them, "Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while." For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. 32And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves.
33Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. 34As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.
56And wherever he went, into villages or cities or farms, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged him that they might touch even the fringe of his cloak; and all who touched it were healed.
SERMON Where’s Your God?
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (The Book of Order F-1.01)
The good news of the Gospel is that the triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—creates, redeems, sustains, rules, and transforms all things and all people. This one living God, the Scriptures say, liberated the people of Israel from oppression and covenanted to be their God. By the power of the Spirit, this one living God is incarnate in Jesus Christ, who came to live in the world, die for the world, and be raised again to new life. The Gospel of Jesus Christ announces the nearness of God’s kingdom, bringing good news to all who are impoverished, sight to all who are blind, freedom to all who are oppressed, and proclaiming the Lord’s favor upon all creation.
*HYMN OF RESPONSE #324 (Blue) Open My Eyes that I May See
Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me.
Place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see;
Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my ears, that I may hear voices of truth Thou sendest clear,
and while the wave notes fall on my ear, everything false will disappear.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see.
Open my ears, illumine me, Spirit divine!
Open my mouth, and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere;
Open my heart, and let me prepare love with Thy children thus to share.
Silently now I wait for Thee, ready, my God, Thy will to see.
Open my mouth, illumine me, Spirit divine!
