CALL TO WORSHIP
Come, let us worship the God who made heaven and earth.
We come with grateful hearts.
Come, you who have walked with God for many years.
We come with stories of God's faithfulness.
Come, you who are still early in your journey of faith.
We come with questions, hopes, and dreams.
Come, children and parents, grandparents and grandchildren, young and old.
We are one family in Christ.
For from generation to generation, God has been faithful.
Let us worship God!
OPENING HYMN “For the Beauty of the Earth”
For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth over and around us lies.
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
For the wonder of each hour of the day and of the night,
hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth, and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild,
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
For thyself, best gift divine to the world so freely given,
for that great, great love of thine, peace on earth and joy in heaven.
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
RESPONSIVE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Faithful God, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Through every season of our lives, you have walked with us.
We thank you for your faithfulness.
Yet we confess that we have not always been faithful to you. We have held too tightly to the past instead of being open to what you are doing now. And we have sometimes forgotten that you are at work in every generation.
Forgive us, Lord, and teach us your ways.
Forgive us for the times we have forgotten your faithfulness. When we are afraid, remind us that you have carried us through. When we wondered whether we still have something to offer, remind us that every generation has a place in your family.
Forgive us, renew us, and make us faithful witnesses to your grace.
And now, in the quiet of our hearts, let us confess the things we carry before God.
Moment of silent prayer.
Faithful God, hear the prayers of your people. Take our failures and teach us. Take our worries and give us peace. Take our fears and give us hope. Help us to faithfully use what we have received
from those who came before us, and use what we have to offer to bless those who come after us.
God of every generation, forgive us and make us new. Help us to listen. Help us to learn. Help us to love. Help us to tell the story of your faithfulness. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
…Friends, believe the good news of the gospel: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
Thanks be to God! AMEN!
SCRIPTURE READING (responsive)
Psalm 71: 1-18
1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to
me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go;
give the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.
5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my
mother’s womb. I will ever praise you.
7 I have become a sign to many; you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.
9 Do not cast me away when I am old;
do not forsake me when my strength is gone.
10 For my enemies speak against me;
those who wait to kill me conspire together.
11 They say, “God has forsaken him;
pursue him and seize him, for no one will rescue him.”
12 Do not be far from me, my God; come quickly, God, to help me.
13 May those who want to harm me be covered with scorn and disgrace.
14 As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day
long, though I know not how to relate them all.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
18 Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.
HYMN “Our God, Our Help in Ages Past”
Our God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home:
Before the hills in order stood or Earth received its frame,
from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same.
Our God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
be thou our guard while life shall last, and our eternal home.
REFLECTION: Two Generations, One Faithfulness
HYMN “God of Our Life”
God of our life, through all the circling years, we trust in you;
in all the past, through all our hopes and fears, your hand we view.
With each new day, when morning lifts the veil,
we own your mercies, Lord, which never fail.
God of the past, our times are in your hand; with us abide.
Lead us by faith, to hope's true Promised Land; be now our guide.
With you to bless, the darkness shines as light,
and faith's fair vision changes into sight.
God of the coming years, thro' paths unknown we follow you;
when we are strong, Lord, leave us not alone; our faith renew.
Be now for us in life our daily bread,
our heart's true home when all our years have sped.
REFLECTION: Looking forward together
HYMN “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”
Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with thee.
Thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not; as thou hast been thou forever wilt be.
Great is thy faithfulness, Great is thy faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hast provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine and ten thousand beside!
Great is thy faithfulness, Great is thy faithfulness, morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed thy hand hast provided; great is thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Apostle’s Creed)
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. OFFERING OF OURSELVES AND OUR RESOURCES
CLOSING HYMN “Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine!”
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending, bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest;
watching and waiting, looking above, filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.
