Leader: All good gifts come from the Spirit of God.

HYMN #559 “We Gather Together”
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious Lord, all that we have is a gift from you, yet we do not live lives of gratitude. Though you welcome us with open arms, we ignore strangers and turn away from those in need. Rather than living to lift others up, we seek honor for ourselves and allow pride to take root in us. Forgive our foolish ways, O God, and restore us to you, that we may walk in your way of love, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

OUR TIME OF PRAYER & THE LORD’S PRAYER
Lord, for this joy, we give you thanks.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

ADAM YOUNG’S EAGLE SCOUT CEREMONY The congregation is invited to attend Adam Young’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony at the church today, November 18th at 2:00 PM. Thank you for your continuing support of Troop 14. Also, take a look at the updated youth room in the church basement if you haven’t had a chance to see it yet.
THE WORSHIP COMMITTEE needs help! After having your most excellent dinner, watching football, playing games with the family, and generally have a very festive time next weekend, why not join the Worship Committee in helping to decorate the sanctuary for Christmas?! We’ll be getting together on Sunday, November 25 following the service – hope you can help out!
ADVENT POTLUCK will be held after worship services on Sundays, December 2, 9, 16, and 23 instead of on Wednesday evenings this year. Feel free to bring your own plates and silverware along with a dish to share!
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING: We will be ringing the bells at the entrance of JC Penney this year on Sunday, December 2 from 12:00-6:00 PM. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.
PROJECT JOY: The Deacons have placed a box in the narthex next to the name tags to collect unwrapped clothing and toys for Project Joy. Money may be donated in the offering plates and the Youth from Sunday school will do the shopping for you. The mission for Project Joy is to provide children and families living in Brookings County, who are in need, an opportunity to receive holiday gifts. Please have your donation to the church by Monday, December 3. Let’s open our hearts this holiday season and bring Joy to area children and families in need by generously donating to Project Joy.
CHURCH OFFICE will be closed November 22 & 23 for Thanksgiving.
CHRISTMAS POINTSETTIAS will be displayed starting December 2, through the end of the month. Whether it’s purchasing a plant as a memorial to a loved one, as a homage to the first Christmas, or simply because they’re beautiful, adding your poinsettia to our advent season brings another level of charm to our Christmas celebrations. If you’d like to drop your poinsettia off at the church office any time after November 19, we’ll take good care of it! If you need someone from the church to pick up your purchased plant from a local florist or store, please call the church office. We’ll add your poinsettia to our display, no matter when it arrives at the church (so no worries if you can’t get it bought before the beginning of Advent).
One of the most delightful decorations at Christmas is the poinsettia. The usual color choice is the deep vibrant red. However, there is a wide array of other colors, including pink, white, marbled, speckled and yellow. The colorful parts of the poinsettia, the bracts, are actually modified leaves. The poinsettia flower is small, green or yellow, and situated in the middle of the bracts.
The poinsettia is named after Joel R. Poinsett, who served as the USA’s first ambassador to Mexico, from 1825 – 1829. He saw this indigenous plant with large scarlet leaves encircling small, greenish yellow blossoms, which was the Mexican Christmas flower. He set specimens back to the USA, where they flourished.
