SUNDAY ORDER OF WORSHIP
6th Sunday after Epiphany
February 13, 2022
PRELUDE
WELCOME
CALL TO WORSHIP
Time passes, seasons change,
but God remains steadfast and sure,
a deeply rooted tree with leaves for the healing of the nations
and the soothing of our souls.
*HYMN #35 (Red) ‘Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty’
Praise ye the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to his temple draw near,
Join me in glad adoration!
Praise ye the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth;
Shelters thee under his wings, yea so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what he ordaineth?
Praise ye the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!
Let the Amen sound from his people again;
Gladly for aye we adore him.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Almighty and ever-living God, your Son Jesus Christ, healed the sick and restored them to wholeness of life. Look with compassion on the anguish of the world, and by your power make whole all peoples and nations; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
CALL TO CONFESSION
We wander and stray, but God continues to reach out to us with mercy and love. Let us make our confession and receive God’s welcome.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Sustaining God, you would have us be deeply rooted in you, finding strength in your word and nourishment in your grace. More often, though, we live as chaff, blown here and there by the winds of circumstance. Forgive our lack of permanency and our failures to hold fast to our commitments. Grow in us faith that we might be firmly planted in your promises, released from sin, and open to the life you have shown us in Jesus Christ. (Silent reflection)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON/DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS
The waters of grace refresh our lives and bring forth a new creation. This is good news! In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!
Thanks be to our God now and forever.
GLORIA PATRI (please stand)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Saving God, source of our calling, your Word is full of power and glory.
Pour out your Holy Spirit upon us so that we may receive your grace
and live as your beloved children; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
BEFORE READING: #455 (Red) ‘Listen to the Word that God has Spoken’ (3 times)
Listen to the word that God has spoken;
Listen to the One who is close at hand;
Listen to the voice that began creation;
Listen even if you don't understand.
SCRIPTURE READINGS
Jeremiah 17:5-10
5 Thus says the Lord:
Cursed are those who trust in mere mortals
and make mere flesh their strength,
whose hearts turn away from the Lord.
6 They shall be like a shrub in the desert,
and shall not see when relief comes.
They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness,
in an uninhabited salt land.
7 Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8 They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.
It shall not fear when heat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;
in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.
9 The heart is devious above all else;
it is perverse--
who can understand it?
10 I the Lord test the mind
and search the heart,
to give to all according to their ways,
according to the fruit of their doings.
SPECIAL MUSIC “Come to Him”
Donna F soloist, Elizabeth F flutist, Mary E pianist
Luke 6:17-26
17 He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. 18 They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. 19 And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.
20 Then he looked up at his disciples and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 “Blessed are you who are hungry now,
for you will be filled.
“Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
22 “Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets.
24 “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have received your consolation.
25 “Woe to you who are full now,
for you will be hungry.
“Woe to you who are laughing now,
for you will mourn and weep.
26 “Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets.
AFTER READING: #454 (Red) ‘Take the Saving Word of God’ (3 times)
Take the saving word of God;
Put it first within your life.
Nothing comes before God’s holy word.
REFLECTION: ‘Blessed’ Rev. Norlita Kaul
HYMN: #839 (Red) ‘Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine!’
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love. [Refrain]
Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love. [Refrain]
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH--APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

*HYMN #65 (Red) ‘Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah’
Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
Hold me with thy powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
Feed me till I want no more,
Feed me till I want no more.
Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream doth flow.
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through.
Strong deliverer, strong deliverer,
Be thou still my strength and shield,
Be thou still be my strength and shield.
When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside.
Death of death, and hell's destruction,
Land me safe on Canaan's side.
Songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever give to thee,
I will ever give to thee.
