WELCOME
CALL TO WORSHIP
Our souls long for you, O God;
where are you?
In raging wind?
In trembling earth?
In blazing flames?
Our souls long for you, O God; where are you?
(Silence) . . .
Meet us once more, O God, in stillness, in silence, in smallness.
Come now, O God, enter our hearts and minds, present now for you.
*HYMN #440 (Blue) ‘In Christ, There is no East or West’
In Christ there is no east or west,
In Him no south or north;
But one great fellowship of love
Throughout the whole wide earth.
In Christ shall true hearts everywhere
Their high communion find;
His service is the golden cord
Close binding humankind.
Join hands, disciples of the faith,
Whate’er your race may be.
All children of the living God
Are surely kin to me.
In Christ now meet both east and west,
In Him meet south and north.
All Christly souls are one in Him
Throughout the whole wide earth.
CALL TO CONFESSION
In confession, we tell the truth about ourselves and our broken world, and the God of all Truth, who knows our limitations and loves our imperfections, has already forgiven us and will always forgive us. Trusting in God’s infinite mercy, let us dare to tell the truth in prayer together.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of steadfast love, the earth and all that is within it proclaim your wondrous works. The mystery of your splendor, the hope of your redemption, the truth of your salvation are daily made manifest throughout your beloved creation. You are, indeed, a living God who longs to reveal in wisdom and in truth. You long for relationships of righteousness. You desire for your people to marvel at your majesty and be transformed by your grace. Lord, we admit we do not always perceive it. We fear to follow; we ignore our discipleship. In Christ, help us to have courage and conviction to walk in faith that seeks wisdom and righteousness all of our days. Make us a people whose lives proclaim your story, and witness to your love. Form us as your disciples, so that we might be instruments of your will and grow ever closer to you. For this we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. (Silent reflection)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON/DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS
This is the truth: You are not the labels others place on you. You are more than the boxes you check. You are not the side of the aisle on which you stand, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. You belong to Christ, and Christ alone. Believe the good news of the gospel:
In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.
GLORIA PATRI (please stand)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, Amen.
PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
Faithful God, how blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Sanctify us by your Word and Spirit so that we may glorify you in the company of the faithful; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. Listen to the word of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 6:4
SCRIPTURE READINGS
1 Kings 19:8-15
8 He got up and ate and drank; then he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mount of God. 9 At that place he came to a cave and spent the night there. Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 10 He answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts, for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.”
11 He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 14 He answered, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts, for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away.” 15 Then the Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael as king over Aram.
Acts 2:42-47
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
43 Awe came upon everyone because many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 All who believed were together and had all things in common; 45 they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
Keep these words in your heart. The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
Thanks be to God. Deuteronomy 6:6
REFLECTION: ‘Koinonia’ Rev. Norlita Kaul
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH – THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
HONORING MEN
MEN’S DAY LITANY (Adapted by Rev. N. J. Kaul)
Blessed are you Lord our God, creator and redeemer of all;
You guide us from all eternity giving life to creation and pouring your love into all you have made.
From the beginning we have known you as “Abba”, and all our families have their origin in you. Through the love of earthly men, you give us a glimpse of your everlasting love.
We give thanks for those men who strive to balance the demands of work, life in singleness or marriage, and children or not, with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. And we pray for those men who, lacking a good model for an earthly parent, have worked to become good men.
We thank You for those who by their own account were not always there for others, but who continue to offer others now, their love and support.
We also give thanks for those men who, despite divorce or singleness, have remained in their family's lives and for those who care for others offering healing when needed.
We thank you for those men, who freely choose the obligation of helping others, thereby gaining love and respect.
And we ask your special blessing on those men who have lost loved ones to death, and who continue to hold them in their hearts.
We also give thanks for those men who cherish the next generation as if they were their own. We pray for those men
who have helped us in their role as mentors and guides.
And we continue to pray for those of us whose loved ones who have died but live on in our memories and whose love continues to nurture us.
May the love of our earthly men draw us ever nearer to you and perfect in us the image of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
*HYMN: #562 (Blue) ‘Eternal Father, Strong to Save’
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm has bound the restless wave,
Who bade the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Savior, whose almighty word
The wind and waves submissive heard,
Who walked upon the foaming dep,
And calm amid its rage did sleep:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Holy Spirit, who did brood
Upon the chaos wild and rude,
And bade its angry tumult cease,
And gave, for fierce confusion, peace:
O hear us when we cry to Thee
For those in peril on the sea.
O Trinity of love and power,
All travelers guard in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe’er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad praise from air and land and sea.
INVITATION TO OFFERING
I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, to present yourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. Let us offer our lives to the Lord. Romans 12:1

PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Healing Father, use these gifts to mend the hearts of those who have been possessed by earthly demons. You have the ability to mend our insecurities – our greed, our self-indulgence, our prejudice, and our fear. You alone can nurture our souls. May these worshipful moments renew our desire to follow you and to reject the forces of evil. In the name of your son, Jesus Christ, who restores and reconciles all who believe in him, we pray. Amen.
